Artist Statement:
"Being creative comes naturally to me... it's a gift passed down from previous generations. I come from a long line of Southern women with strong wills, sharp wits, and artsy spirits. Thank goodness their gentlemen husbands appreciated (well, at least tolerated) the artistic spark in their ladies and supported them in their creative endeavors.
Both my mother and grandmother were accomplished painters who provided an abundance of art activites at home when I was very young. I learned how fun and challenging art can be. Years later when I had little girls of my own it was my turn to pass on the gift... lots of fun with paper, crayons, paint, and glue! And, now it's their turn to pass it on.
As an adult I channeled my creative energies toward a practical form of art, earning my BA in interior design. I continue to work as in interiors consultant and an antiques dealer. My love of history, simple times and romantic notions comes through in my art. Southern themes, from quiet rural settings to the magic of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, are natural favorites. Inspiration for many of my pieces comes from legends, stories, and people...especially people. There is a touch of portraiture in all my art, whether my subject's a very real person or a fairy or even a stray cat. I have a definite affinity for heartfelt emotion, inventive ideas, whimsy, and simple sensual pleasures that intertwines with my subject matter.
My artwork has been purchased by clients in the US and the British Isles. Commissions are welcome." |
